Our snowy vacation was perfectly perfect. Our little cabin in the woods held all the fun we needed. The sledding hill just outside was well-loved by all of us. I have never sledded before, and wow, it was fun. The girls flew down the hill; I was a bit more cautious. There's lots of room for creativity with sledding- sledding trains, disc/sled combinations, sledding from the hill to the icy drivewayand back to the snowy hill....

The woods seemed full of magic. We walked down the hill beside our cabin to the creek below, filled with snow and ice, under a canopy of snow-covered tree branches, with the only sounds being the rushing of the creek and the swishing of our boots through the snow, and I felt like I was in a dream. The quiet and the cold together created a new space, almost a whole new world.

We learned lots of things about snow. 1. Waking up to see snow falling is the most magical thing ever 2. Snow is really fun to eat and roll around in, expecially if you're 4 or 7 years old (I didn't find laying in snow to be fun). 3. It's hard to walk in snow- our hike in the woods was a short one. 4. When the moon shines on snow, it looks like it has glitter in it- just like our snowy pinecone tree ornaments. 5. Snowmen are big projects, and much easier with wetish snow than with powdery snow. 6. Snow pants have little boot cover inserts in them which are handy to use (lesson learned the hard way after a wetish snow day) 7. Sledding in -10 degree weather isn't fun, even if the sun is shining. 8. Sledding in 7 degree windy weather leaves you so cold you can't talk or think or feel your face. 9. Hot chocolate or hot tea (depending on the family member) tastes better in Vermont than Florida.

The girls are hoping to move to Vermont. They really loved our trip. The town we stayed in is named Chelsea. It's not really a town (more rural than that), but it's where our cabin was. On one of the really cold days when we mostly stayed inside around the fire we agreed on a name for our new little girl on the way, and her middle name is Chelsea. Makes a good story to tell her someday.

Oh, I'm SO glad you had fun!!! I was thinking about you all week, every time we got some snow :) You picked a perfect week to be up here to experience true New England winter weather!
Can't wait to see the pictures!
Thanks, Harvest Mom. Your advice about what we needed for our trip was spot on. Wow, it was so fun, and oh so beautiful. But I must admit it's nice to not have to bundle up quite so much to go outside now. It was a big process to put on sll the snow gear!
The pictures are great, Stacey!!
And LOL about bundling up -- now you know why I don't schedule much for my kids this time of year, it takes a half our just to get out of the house.
