settling

We are finding a new normal rhythm to life in our home. It’s exciting, all the new to us and fresh things. We have cleaned out clutter in the process of moving, which gives us cleaner and simpler spaces. We are meeting new neighbors. We have an amazing new yard and are enjoying our newly planted gardens and are dreaming of all we will someday do with this space. The girls have new forts in live oak trees. We are choosing fabric to make new curtains. We are hearing new noises and seeing new wildlife- turkeys, a fox, rattlesnakes (!), peacocks, bunnies and bluebirds are the exciting discoveries. We are finding new walking trails. We are learning our way around a new side of town.

Amidst all the joy, the transition is exhausting, even difficult. Maybe all transitions are. We have found stability in the familiar routines of our life together, intentional pauses in the middle of busy days doing, and good nourishing food. I have learned to stop doing to read a book, go for a walk to pick berries, write a letter, watch a play put on by the girls, bake cookies, snuggle... Eventually all the pictures will be hung, the bathrooms painted, the boxes unpacked, and the closets organized.
